Transit Insurance for Home Shifting: Is It Worth It?
Professional movers take great care of your belongings, but long-distance journeys carry some risk. Transit insurance gives you peace of mind for high-value moves. Here's how it works.
What it covers and what it costs
Transit insurance protects your goods against damage or loss while in transit. The premium is usually a small percentage of the value you declare — on Packerwala it is 3% of your declared goods value, which you can opt into while booking.
What is usually NOT covered
Read the fine print — common exclusions include:
- Glass items and very fragile decorative pieces.
- Pre-existing damage not noted at packing.
- Cash, jewellery and valuables (keep these with you).
- Items you packed yourself rather than the movers.
Should you opt in?
For a short local move, it's usually optional. For a long intercity haul of a full home or high-value electronics and furniture, transit insurance is worth the small premium. On Packerwala you simply tick the insurance option, declare your goods value, and our team arranges the cover.
