How to Move a Washing Machine Safely

A washing machine is heavy, has moving internal parts, and can leak or get damaged if moved carelessly. Prepare it properly before the move.

Before moving day

• Disconnect power, inlet and drain hoses; drain all residual water fully.
• For front-loaders, fit transit/shipping bolts to lock the drum (very important).
• Dry the interior and leave the door slightly open to prevent odour.
• Tape the cord and hoses to the body; keep small fittings in a labelled bag.

Move it upright on a trolley, never on its side. Professional movers crate or wrap it and secure it in the truck so the drum doesn't shift in transit.
